I know you people are probably sick of these threads already, but I need help in finding some information that should be out there.
As many others I'm thinking of doing a tail swap on my FZR 600, and I've been looking at the R6's and such.

I've been comparing the looks of the 99-02 (5EB) tails vs the 03-05's (5SL) and i have to say that the 03-05s look a bit better in my opinion, mostly because of the cooler taillight:

I tried to find write-ups for both tails, but I've only been able to locate heaths mod with a 5EB style tail.. could someone link to write-ups of the 03 model, preferably with a subframe swap also?
How much more work do I have to put into doing the '03 including subframe swaps for both? Can I put the '03 undertail with the better looking lights on the 99-02 tail?

If someone has suggestions on other tails that would be cool for a swap, please drop a note!

Here's something quite interesting...

This is a 1999 r6:

And this is the 2003 model:

Notice how they are damn near identical? The biggest differences I see are the front turn indicators and the tail light.
Does this mean that the 99-02 seats are interchangeable with the 03 model? Are there any real differences in the tail mountings etc?

Has anyone got a link for a FZR 600 fitted with a 2006 r6 tail? I think it looks pretty good:

That looks cool! Do you have more pictures, like a side view from a further away, and a rear view?

I made the passenger seat my self but you could definitely get the original r1 seat to fit with a little work. I made mine cause I'm short on cash and I made it to lock with the fzr seat lock. I plan on putting a jump point under it for easy access.

The picture doesnt show.

Did you swap the whole rear frame or did you just replace the plastics?

yea I have a yzf 600 tank on there, and no I didnt switch out the sub frame, I did have to modify it a little to get the plastics to switch right but It wasn't too bad nothing major just cutting and bending, would of been nicer if I had access to a welder lol.

Donate to The FZR Archives, I did.

The bike that you have pictured is not an '03 R6. It looks more like an '02. The '02s share the same tail design as the earlier R6 , except that there are two round tail lights integrated with the under-tail. The '03 tail plastic is shorter (the plastic does not extend as far forward) with somewhat "sharper" lines.

Here is an example: http://p1.bikepics.com/pics/2010%5C09%5C04...053255-full.jpg

I have seen an FZR with that tail before. I doubt mounting that tail would present any more challenge than the first gen tails.

FZR400 (1WG): Purchased a perfectly good FZR400 with Yoshimura slip-on/EXUP, Yosh jet kit, Factory ignition advance, Racetech springs and emulators. It even had great bodywork. Like some diseased maniac I had to mess with everything good about that bike. Well, at least I have better brakes now.

FZR400RR (3TJ):Yeah, it's pink.

Yeah I realized that some time ago, the picture was put in the wrong gallery on the site I looked at.
Would the stock FZR seat work with the R6 tail fairings?

I don't think so, the r6 tail fairings much like the r1 have that v shape in the back of the seat and underneath is cut only a hair inline of that so if you put on the fzr seat besides having to push the tail back more youed end up seeing the innards slightly on the sides/back of your seat unless you glassed it up. I mean corrct me if im wrong cause ive never tried it thats just my thought on it.

Mine had an R6 tail with the stock seats fitted and tank when I bought it, I've saw photos of another 2. Mine the tail was cut (photo's below) and forced inwards, the rear of the tail eventually cracked. Tony over on FZRonline cut the tail in half lengthwise. With the stock seats theres no brackets (4) to fab weld in, or subframe swap.
