It really is as straight forward as unbolt one, drop it out, lift the other one in, and bolt it together.

Here are the areas to look out for.:
1) The air box will not fit under the FZR tank cover. It won't fit between the frame for that matter. You need to cut material from it to get it on or run pods. Usually people just seal it back up with "duck tape" and use a YZF fuel tank. By the way, you have to use the Foxeye air box, not the Thundercat.
2) The FZR wiring and CDI will not work, you need the YZF items.
3) To my knowledge, the YZF header will not work. It has to do with the location of the collector hitting the shock linkage.

The first time takes a little while. But the best order is to remove the engine cradles, get a jack under the engine, remove the two rear bolts, then move the engine forward and down to get it out. Of course you need to have the radiator and carbs out of the way first.

Good luck.

You will want to run FZR headers. The YZF headers will not come out at the proper angle.

The YZF headers will bolt to the head. However, the motor in the YZF600 is mounted in a more "upright" position than in the FZR.
Therefore, the bends in the YZF header tube are at such an angle that the mid-pipe will point much higher, when installed. I have a YZF pipe on an FZR400RR (3TJ) which has the motor mounted at the same angle as the YZF. I tried installing an FZR400 and 600 pipe on that bike and the header tubes came out pointing towards the ground. I haven't actually tried to install the YZF pipe on my FZR400 (1WG), but given the above described experience, I would imagine the YZF pipe would foul on the shock mount or engine cradle. I have also heard that the YZF headers will not fit under the FZR fairings. Thats why I sourced an FZR600 pipe for my FZR4/YZF600 hybrid.
