So after spending far too much time on ebay, spending every dime I could get my hands on, whoring myself out to anyone that needs odd jobs done(its no fun mowing several acres of waist high sage grass) I have managed to come up with the necessary funds(while unemployed) to get all the parts needed for my build my way. Im replacing just about everything on my bike this time around. The previous owner was a drooling idiot who didnt know how to put a bike together. As many of you know, when I got my FZR600 last year it was decked out in FZR1000 fairings, tank, cowl, seat(held on only with zip ties), etc. It looked like a bag of smashed assholes!! Nothing fit right, nothing worked right, and nothing was painted right. The frame was painted black over the stock clearcoat and was chipping badly. But it wasnt even dissassembed, so there was overspray on everything, silver lines where overflow lines ran across the frame, and the 3-4" behind the steering head werent painted. The subframe and left rearset mount were bent as it had been previously dropped. It was just plain ugly. And trust me it looks 100x better in the pics.

The day I bought it

Then later that day it got wrecked by a now ex friend of mine and bent the forks, bent the front wheel, destroyed the windscreen, etc. So over the next few months I replaced the front end and tried to bring it back as much to stock as possible. I got the tank, tail, seats and such put on and finally got it on the road again after 3 months of tinkering.

Here it is with everything back to 600 except the cowl and headlights, which came later

Notice the bent subframe? Finally has 600 cowl and windscreen!! YAY

And now on to its current state......

Over the last few weeks Ive stripped the bike down completely and put a few things back together for mock up or to check fitment, or just for shits and giggles. Along the way I found out a few interesting things. One is that my 1990 bike has a later year engine. Not sure what year because the serial number has been ground off. Suspicious? A little. The bike came with a spare shit engine. Im guessing this is the original. Also, the tabs had been cut off the downtubes becuae, again, the previous owner was a tool. THe radiator was held on with little bits of aluminum. It wouldnt center and moved around while riding. Ended up tearing one of the tabs on the radiator back in Nov. Luckily our welder at work fixed it up nicely for me. Most everything on this bike is ugly and dirty. I managed to get my hands on a sandblaster so I will be entertaining myself with that all week cleaning this stuff up.

The frame-Notice the shitty paint job

New downtubes

The engine in its current state. Needs cleaning!
Note the chewed up downtubes

Current condition of the front end. R6 brakes are mounted up, SS lines, and new levers and bar weights.

The stock front upper. Its gotta go. It broken, the windscreen looks like ass, and the guages are broken.

Note the speedo falling out the back

One nice thing is that the bike came with an aftermarket header and pods. It wasnt jetted for them and ran like shit, but it had them.
The header needs some major cleaning though

Pods

My new parts are slowly starting to trickle in now

Engine upgrades!! Carb rebuild kits. Factory Pro Stage 3 Jet kit with new emulsion tubes and ignition advance, new stator cover, gaskets for all engine covers(valve, clutch, peanut, sprocket) for once they get sandblasted and painted, and a new clutch cable. Shifterer detent still on its way.

Carbs boots to replace my cracked ones!Used but better than what Ive got

Body upgrades are a must with this bike. Everything's gotta go
New Mirrors!

YZF600 Tank Thanks BMiller!

2006 R1 Tail and undertail I love that shift red color!!!

LED Taillight upgrade woohoo!

2006 R1 Rear Pegs

Nearly new front seat Still waiting on my rear cowl

2006 R1 Undertail Exhaust

Heat shields

Here's whats going to make it all work:2006 R1 Subframe

To save the headache of figuring out where to put the overflow tank, Ive got a stock 2006 R1 tank that mounts up in the stock location

New front pegs

Rear brake upgrades!!
2001 R1 Rear master cylinder, red anodized cap, goodridge SS line with red anodized fittings, new EBC pads. Im keeping the stock rear caliper. Thats about it.

Im still waiting on my chain and sprockets as I have to figure out the correct front sprocket to swap in to match my YZF rear end, but I got these spiffy anodized aluminum sprocket nuts. They look great and shave a considerable amount of weight compared to steel nuts. They have a steel core to maintain torque.
Sprocket Nuts

1999 YZF600 Swingarm and wheel swap
Tested out the sandblaster on the wheel. Works pretty well. Good enough for free!!

And to finish up for today we have new tires!!
Pirelli Diablo 120/70/17 Front, 160/60/17 Rear.

I will be sandblasting and starting on the fabrication for the subframe mounting over the next few days. Many more pics are forthcoming.

Yeah, it came with a 150/70/18. Its HUGE. Way too tall. Its almost 2" larger diameter than a 160/60/17. Like I said, the previous owner was an idiot. It did have 14/48 gearing to make up for it though.

Im not going to keep the 1000 Upper. Tho cowl stay would only fit on there off center. The whole thing was about 3/4" off. No ram air tubes would work, and no side fairings would match up right. It looked stupid in person.

Hey, thanks for the compliment thumbup.gif

You can do it, or better! Remember, I am pretty new at this stuff and was only attempting to restore my bike with a couple of small upgrades. My philosophy has been to not get in a rush, take my time and try to do it right at each small step. It worked for me, most of the time confused.gif This is nothing compared to what you have planned -- I mean, look at all those awesome parts! You are very ambitious to take on that amount of customization woot.gif

Good luck with your build, I will definately keep my eye on it.

Cheers.

I thought I would add this before someone asks. I intend to run the midpipe for the exhaust around the swingarm and under the tail. I want to do something exactly like this YZF, but with a split at the top. With a black bike, black frame, and black painted midpipe, I think it will blend in nicely and shouldnt be an eyesore.

Well it looks like my purdy slashcut red pegs and stock rearsets are a nogo now. I just commited to a set of Spyders custom rearsets. They are gonna look sick on this beyotch!!
